3L interviewing w/ firm, 2L summer in gov, advice?

I'll be interviewing with a firm early next week, and (and I suppose for the next few months into the spring) and wondering how I should answer when they question my 2L summer. I did an NYC gov gig, a unique-ish field (transactional), how do I answer when they ask about my wanting to work at a firm, or lacking in firm experience... I'm maybe a bit under median at T-14 and worked in-house in the northeast for my 1L summer.
Is it something I brush by, or is there a good response? I imagine it can't just be "I couldn't find an SA..." Any advice would be VERY much appreciated, definitely a bit nervous... Thanks

In the same boat. This depends on the difference between your candidacy now and last year. If you can articulate how you have worked over the past year to be the best version of yourself, and are happy to boldly point this out, do it.
I have been very successful with just saying: honestly, I wanted a firm. I tried last year... it did not work out for me, so I went back to the drawing board and here I am. As you can see, I have raised my GPA, I joined XX, I took part in YY, and I am here applying again - I want to be the best lawyer I can be and I am pulling myself up, but I need you too, to train me.

I have also been successful in 3L OCI with candidly admitting that I tried for a firm but it didn't work out and explaining why I thought my summer position was the next best opportunity for the type of law I want to practice.
