Lateral advice thread - post-acceptance

Hey everyone,

I've been in practice a few years but have remained with the firm i summered with up until now. I recently accepted a lateral offer to a similarly sized firm in the area and have given my 1-month notice.

For those of you who have gone through a lateral transition, what advice would you give me? I already feel welcomed and am ready to go. However, I want to make sure that I make a good first impression.

Advice?

I would recommend trying to find someone junior that you trust to help you navigate the personalities. When I lateraled, it was very helpful to get an unfiltered opinion on the different workstreams in the group ("Partner X is hard to work for, Partner Y is demanding by loyal and will take care of you, and avoid Partner Z at all costs").

Beyond that, I don't think there's a ton to it. People will hopefully give you a bit of a leash to get up to speed on everything.
