Re: The Definitive Thread on OH Law Firms
Is anyone a practicing attorney/clerk or someone with knowledge on how the major firms in Cincinnati are viewed? Are they all more or less the same, prestige-wise?

I’m curious about this as well. I am going to be working for one of them soon and never really heard much differentiating them in terms of prestige.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Feb 19, 2021 1:40 amIs anyone a practicing attorney/clerk or someone with knowledge on how the major firms in Cincinnati are viewed? Unless it is Jones Day or Squire, I’m not sure it really matters. They’re all regional firms and nobody cares about “prestige.”Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Feb 19, 2021 9:38 amI’m curious about this as well. I've never heard of it having one. Only V100 firms in Cincinnati I've heard of are Squire, Baker Hostetler, and Blank Rome. All their Cincinnati offices are small and I'm not really sure what kind of work they're doing in the city.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Feb 19, 2021 8:04 pmDid Jones Day have a Cincinnati office at one point?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Feb 19, 2021 10:34 amUnless it is Jones Day or Squire, I’m not sure it really matters. Also, I think Thompson Hine and a few other Ohio firms have smaller offices in Cincinnati (compared with the larger Cincinnati firms already mentioned) and they pay market, too.

Calfee Halter also pays above market for first-years and summers - $135 starting for first-years.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 10:58 pmPretty sure they don’t regularly recruit students.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 7:16 pmI can confirm that. No. Oddly enough, very few firms do here in Cincinnati.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 9:10 amThey seem to have a pretty lean office in Cincinnati. Odd. Yeah it's the artist formerly known as Bingham Greenebaum, part of Dentons's attempt to have an office in every state or whatever, but as far as I know the million Dentons acquisitions are biglaw in name only and are more of a referral network than a unified firm. Partnership, leadership, comp, and hours are all determined locally according to Dentons.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 2:37 pmDentons also has an office there now, I think thanks to an acquisition.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 11:41 amI've never heard of it having one. Surprised to see BGD go. Is that just how Denton’s operates or was there some instability?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 3:51 pmYeah it's the artist formerly known as Bingham Greenebaum, part of Dentons's attempt to have an office in every state or whatever, but as far as I know the million Dentons acquisitions are biglaw in name only and are more of a referral network than a unified firm. I can confirm that Dinsmore, TH, and FBT have made offers to people. No word on Taft (and no clue if Vorys or KMK even hired this year).Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 2:21 pmHas anyone heard from the Cincy firms post callback? I had callbacks with two of them and haven't heard back.

Re: The Definitive Thread on OH Law Firms
I had an informational interview with Taft about a month and a half ago and there was a battle ongoing if they would hire anyone this year. I think they decided not to hire 2Ls. I guess I fully struck out this OCI if Dinsmore has already given out their offers. I just had my callback about a week and a half ago!Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 3:48 pmI can confirm that Dinsmore, TH, and FBT have made offers to people. Thanks for the info about Taft. I knew a few people waiting on a response, so I wonder if they decided not to hire. Sorry about your luck. I only know of one person that just received an offer, so things could change.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 4:20 pmI had an informational interview with Taft about a month and a half ago and there was a battle ongoing if they would hire anyone this year. You're suggesting that the Ohio legal market doesn't begin and end at Cincinnati?!?

Just trying to get a sense of what differentiates the Cincinnati firms since I don't go to law school in Cincinnati, and the market seems a bit more insular compared to Columbus/Cleveland.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Feb 19, 2021 10:34 amUnless it is Jones Day or Squire, I’m not sure it really matters. Also, I get the impression that Squire is a risky place to start your career at. Haven't they been having issues for a while now? Not sure I'd take them over a regional Cincinnati firm to be honest.

Anyone want to talk Columbus/Cleveland? I’m curious about those markets, since I’m from Ohio. Looking to see where I can land after clerking.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
