Irell and Manella (Corporate)

Does anyone know anything about their corporate group? Is it pretty busy, what kind of deals do they do?

I've heard they're traditionally above market for bonuses.

What's the culture like?

Seems like a tough place to get a job (high grade requirement and only recruit from top schools from what I can tell), but if you end up not liking it there and tried to lateral, is Irell viewed by other firms as similar to working at a v10?

I would not go to irell for corporate. or really for anything besides IP litigation

Irell used to pay above-market bonuses, but post-HH split and the 2016 raises, its functionally market (certain associates receive 1.5x, but its a wash).

Care to elaborate why?

According to ATL, the bonuses for 2017 were well above market (called a "good year" bonus), and there wasn't any qualification in the article for "certain" associates, it appeared to be everyone.

I can't speak to bonuses, but I'm pretty sure that Anon is saying that b/c Irell does not have much of a corporate practice and is a much more IP-focused only firm. So, there likely just is not a lot of corporate work.

I'm sure it's a fine place to work, but for reference, as a corporate attorney at a massive california firm, I didn't even know they did non litigation work. YMMV.
