People who didn't receive OCI big law summer jobs, what did your summer job pay? I know that through OCI firms will prorate your salary ensuring a pretty amazing pay rate for the summer. Just wondering if non-OCI firms do the same? Not the most confident going into OCI and I am curious if I don't get one of those jobs if I'll be stuck with the $17ish an hour for another year. Can anyone shed some light on this topic?

what do you mean by non-OCI firms? Do you simply mean any firms that don't attend your OCI, which would include other biglaw firms? Or small firms that do less sophisticated work and pay less? if the latter, obviously you will make less than the firms at your OCI pay.

I mean non big-law firms. My school's OCI is exclusively big law firms and I am wondering if mid and smaller firms also prorate salary. Obviously it would be less but if the salary is pro rated it would be a whole lot better better than the slightly above minimum wage that most firms pay after 1L

I think it really depends on the firm and your market.

In my market, I have seen some mid size firms offer pay of like 1,200/wk or something like that. I'm unsure how common that is. I'd focus on trying to make the most of your OCI opportunities and then changing gears if it doesn't work out.

then it will depend firm to firm and market to market. But as NALP will show, there are a lot of firms that will not be attending your OCI and would not be considered biglaw, but that prorate whatever salaries that they typically pay for first years for summers. These firms are also hard to predict offers at and take less summers, so if you are interested in them you should probably get a jump on mass mailing them.
