Top Law Schools

I'm currently planning out my firm list for OCI, and although I really want to live in California, I hope to have a shot at working for the AUSA someday. My grades are pretty good (3.73) at a T6, and I really have my sights set on WilmerHale. Would it be dumb to apply to one of their California offices instead of NY or DC if I want to do government work someday, even if I want to do government work in California?

The general rule is to apply to firms located in the area where you want to live, and this is more important for government work, so apply to CA offices. Going to WilmerHale NY or DC may help you become an AUSA in NY/DC, but not in CA. Research which CA firms are feeders to the AUSA in CA and apply to those firms.
