Government Job 2L summer?

Hey, I'm at a T-14 and have until today to decide whether to accept a government position in NYC for my 2L summer.
Basically, do people realistically get law firm jobs after a 2L government summer gig? Assuming I network like crazy over the summer/fall, is this something I should be doing? There are possibly a couple small/mid firms that might come through in 1 or 2 weeks but I have a firm deadline on this Gov gig (The pay at the firms would likely be only a bit more than the government job).
Thanks

Is the government gig with a federal or state agency?

Yes State agency in NYC. If it makes a difference, deals with Tech related legal issues (Data Privacy division).

Sorry didn't realize I didn't tag you (been having technical difficulties as you can see by my doubled response above). Curious what you think, just trying to get an idea about where I stand, thanks.

To be honest I am only a 2L so I can't offer you any anecdotal advice, I was hoping if I clarified/bumped someone else with more knowledge would step up. With that said, I am more than happy to offer my perspective.
The group you would be working in sounds like great experience. Lots of law firms have practice areas that overlap with or focus on data privacy-related issues, so I think that experience would translate very well to private practice, making it very attractive to a law firm looking to snag someone after 2L. Data privacy is a hot practice area right now and its only getting hotter. Certainly an in-house group would love someone with that experience too.
Although I hate platitudes, the expression "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" comes to mind. Here we aren't even sure there are birds in the bush. Or maybe the birds that are in the bush have rabies or something. You are holding a dove. Take your beautiful rabies-free bird and have a great summer in New York. That's my two cents.
