Transferred from school USNWR ranked 100-110. Now rising 3L at school USNWR ranked 40-50. GPA 3.55-3.62 (top 18-15% some flux w/ spring exams, but wanted to get this out early).

Substantial experience interning in desired practice area in desired legal market. Advanced degree in desired practice area. Managing Editor of secondary journal w/ two publications on topics in desired practice area.

How do I break into DC market as a rising 3L, what are my chances at OCI as a 3L, what is the best way to go about mass mailing? All tips/advice appreciated.

To be honest, your chances are essentially zero. Your best bet is to go clerk for a few years and try again, because you aren't breaking into DC. DC is the single most competitive legal market for biglaw, as demand is much higher than supply. Top 25% kids at t13s fight for DC and some won't get it. That along with the fact 3L oci just isn't a thing makes this an impossible task.

I would mass mail every single market possible at try to get a biglaw gig somewhere, but realistically DC isn't going to happen.

if you are talking about advanced degree in IP, sure.

reaching out by positioning yourself as an expert already and an eager worker to all firms in DC, but i'd also apply to mcguirewood/ VA/ maryland firms just because DC is hard as shit. you aint getting into the top 10 firms in DC for sure. but try 10-30 in DC if they hiring in IP
