Lateral/Transferring from BOS --> NYC

For context, I'm a 3L and will be working in Boston big law and plan to stick around for about 2 years. However, I know I will want to lateral to the NYC market, either via intrafirm transfer to the NYC office or lateralling to another firm.

(1) How does one go about asking their firm for an intrafirm transfer, especially if you don't have a compelling reason other than wanting to practice/live in NYC? (I lived and worked in NYC before and know I love it there.)
(2) If you transferred from BOS to NYC big law, did you perceive a notable difference in the work lifestyle?
(3) If you lateralled, did you feel like you really had to keep it under wraps from your firm, how did you navigate having to do interviews in the middle of the week and not telling your firm, etc.?

I love my firm and expect to enjoy my work and time at my firm, and want to make sure I approach it in the best way possible with no hard feelings or bridges burned.

If you’re at Ropes, just ask. I know 3-4 people in my graduating class asked for intrafirm transfers and got them without much pushback.

Literally in exactly the same boat but CA --> DC. Also, anyone know if you can do this after only one year?...

Good luck, OP.
