Low hours, what to do? (Specialty group)

Hi everyone,

I know this topic has been written on ad nauseam but I was wondering if there was any advice other than “go find any partner and tell them you need work.” I’m a junior in a specialty group and there are only a handful of partners. I ask them for work but sometimes either they’re busy or they just don’t have work for me. I reach out to the other associates as well.

I’m on track to bill around 130 hours this month.

Not sure if I should just go to other random partners and ask for work (like corporate partners). I’ve exhausted my pro bono hours counting towards billable hours. Any help is appreciated.

How have you been billing in previous months? 130 is not that slow. A couple months in a row of sub-150 hours will cause someone to miss an hours target/requirement, but it's not like you've billed 5 hours in three weeks. Work ebbs and flows, and if 130 is a "slow" month for you then you're probably fine for now.

Agreed- one month of 130 hours is nothing to be concerned about, particularly in a specialty group.
