Interviewing in other Cities

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Feb 27, 2018 1:13 am

Currently looking to lateral to another city, but don't want to leave my current position to start interviewing. How did others manage going to interviews in other cities without alerting your current firm that you're trying to leave? Also do firms pay your travel expenses for lateral interviews?

I know this forum is down on recruiters, but this is one of the instances where they can be quite useful to coordinate everything. Regardless, firms are generally willing to do phone or VC screener interviews, then you can try to condense your call backs into a few days and take time off from your current job. While some firms will pay for travel, you will likely have more success if you just book a trip a few weeks out to your new city. If you are a marginal candidate after the screener, a firm is far more likely to be willing to do a call back if you are going to be there anyway vs you asking them to pay your way.
