Hiring needs of new offices

Is it easier to get into a new office of a big firm? for example, when Kirkland opens a new office, like they did in Boston last year, are the hiring needs higher, and therefore they might lower their standards, or are they not really looking at hiring law students at that point? Or is it the same as it would be at an established office?

I am especially concerned with looking at this from a rising 3L's prospective, whose grades are going up at a t14 and has a v50 offer for the upcoming summer in the same market as the new office.

When Jones Day moved into Minneapolis last year they scooped up about 10 federal clerks to bring in as associates.

That said, it really depends on the firm.
