Hi all, I’m currently a 1L who had an interview with a federal judge about two weeks ago. I have not heard anything back— not even a rejection. I was wondering if it’s normal if silence means a ding, or is it appropriate to follow up to ask the chambers for a timeline?

This is sdny/edny. The judge mentioned he was still conducting interviews so he does not give out offers on the spot.

It's very unlikely they've forgotten about you. You can call if you want, but 99% chance that it will not help you. Judges work on their own timeline, nothing you can really do about it.

It would be fairly unlikely, but not unprecedented, for you to hear nothing from chambers once they finish the interview process. If you interviewed early on in the judge's hiring process, it is likely that the judge may still be interviewing candidates. When our chambers did summer intern interviews for six positions, interviews lasted close to a month. That said, if we interviewed a solid candidate that we thought might have multiple options, we made an offer rather quickly even though we were still in the interview process. Do you know how many spots the judge has? If the judge has several spots and has not made you an offer after two weeks, you should start really exploring other options because odds are against you receiving an offer (at best, you'd probably be on the border)
