Also if anyone wants to. How would you rank the BigLaw firms in Houston? Just overall.

I'd argue Baker Botts or V&E.

Looking only at competitiveness, I'm sure Susman is much more difficult to get than V&E and BB.
But the whole question is putting the cart before the horse. OP is probably an insufferable gunner

Jones Day is easily the least competitive

Obviously it's Susman. No comparison.

Based on the people I know going to JD, this is true.

I don't feel like either are terribly selective tbh.

V&E goes below median at least one T10 I know of. Baker Botts is a little more competitive, but still pulls from below top-third.

LOL at Baker Botts. They just lost like 10 partners to GDC and is a declining firm with no sense of a turnaround.
For transaction work probably LW.
For lit probably Susman, with Susman generally more competitive.

What about Kirkland?

I’m not at either KE or LW, but I get the sense that KE has larger classes (due to its relatively high attrition) and is consequently less selective. Clearly it’s a top firm in Houston.

Kirkland not particularly selective with either law school or lateral offers since the office was opened. Likely driven by need for bodies the first 2+ years, as they were crushingly busy. Office size has (mostly) caught up with the work load and I would expect them to get more selective going forward.
Would agree that LW is probably most selective of the corp. firms right now. Very hard grade cut-offs at each school at which they conduct interviews.
Can't speak to lit firms, though based on reputation alone I would agree with those saying Susman.

See

And then make Baker Botts and Kirkland switch places (and of course ignore the non-houston firms)
