M.A in History?

I am considering enrolling in a Online History MA program during the summer months off from Law School for year 2 and 3. I know that it will not matter for getting an edge on other law students but I want to know if there is a risk of Big Law firms looking negatively on me getting that degree while in school for a JD. I was a History Major in undergrad and am considering this MA program because I have a passion for history and I would like to write popular history someday which I believe having an M.A will help me get published. Money is not a concern since I have a guaranteed public service job waiting for me whenever I want to put in my 10 years to get my loans forgiven by Uncle Sam.

The biggest issue that I can see is that you need to spend hit summers doing legal jobs to get experience to make you attractive to employers. So I don’t know how you will actually be able to complete a MA at the same time.

Program is only 30 credits (Good school oddly enough ) so should be able to do both. I also might get some undergrad courses I took to count towards it.

What kind of legal work do you intend to do during the summers? I would not want to carry a full time MA course load and work full time. Why not wait to do the MA at some time closer to when you’d be writing this history?

I am still deciding which will impact how I proceed. Mainly because I want the government to pay for it which they would for PLSF. I should say that my PI is as a rock solid as can be and working in Big Law will not impact my standing with them.
