Posted this in the 1L SA thread but thought it might be better as its own topic in case anyone else is in a similar position:
1L at T10. Non-URM, first generation graduate student (for whatever that's worth).
I truly thought I failed all of my finals so I didn't even consider the possibility of landing a 1L SA. Having gotten my grades back, I now think I could possibly be competitive for some positions (my school doesn't rank but based on some info I've seen, I'd guess I'm hovering around top 10%).
Any advice for trying to put together some competitive apps this late in the game? Or is it a waste of time given that 1) it's January and 2) I don't fit into any of the major diversity categories.

If you have your materials ready, just start mass mailing. Do you have ties to a secondary market? Hit up NALp and find any firms in markets that interest you that hire 1Ls and email them tonight with your materials.

Apply. What is the downside? Time spent on resume and CL for the potential of approximately 30k and an offer in hand into OCI? Come on now. The spots are most definitely not all full.

A bunch of applications aren't even due until February, and that's for the diversity positions, which I think hire earlier than non-LCLD SA positions. Check your school's spring OCI too -- it's not too late!
