Interviewed about 2 months back for a temporary AUSA gig (3 year requirement). I though it went well, but haven't heard anything back. I know I'm reading tea leaves, but any thoughts on whether this is normal?

Anon b/c I'm an AUSA. It could be normal. For one thing, not much official gets done between Thanksgiving and New Year's just because enough people throughout the government take vacation for enough of that period. For another, some offices are just slower than others. Also, what is their USA status? Do they have a new one in place, or nominated, or no idea yet? If there's a nomination pending or on the horizon it might slow things down. And then some offices just move slower than others.

Unfortunately it's also possible that they've picked a candidate (who is not you) and are facing delays shepherding that person through the approval process. So the position hasn't officially closed (triggering a rejection letter), but you're out. I don't think there's any way to tell at this point.

The fact that it's a temporary position could cut either way - if it's an addition to the office there may be less need to get it filled quickly, or they may want to fill it quickly if the timing/funding is short.

I'm reviving this to ask my own, since it got a response from a source with some knowledge. Interviewed twice 3 months ago for one of the 5 or so largest offices who are doing "a round" of hiring. Have heard nothing since but no rejection. For these large offices, is there any information about how they do that? I have to imagine in the time since they have interviewed everyone they wanted to for the open slots (which they already had approval for a set number). Not sure what the delay would be, other than I'm out. But I know its the gov't.
