Exit options for ADAs who work in Appeals?

Got an offer from one of the outer NYC boroughs where I interned this summer, and they told me they were going to put me in appeals. I'm glad they put me there, but I am concerned about the exit options. Are the exit options better/worse/different than being a trial bureau ADA? Obviously you don't get trial experience, but is that kind of criminal appellate work at all marketable?

Since it sounds like the Appeals Bureau liked you, is there anybody at the office that you can ask? I work in the Appeals Bureau of an NYC borough, and people are generally pretty open and not defensive about discussing other employment prospects. Alternatively, you can ask them what the process would be for you to transfer to a trial bureau after a few years in Appeals.

Otherwise, I think the exit options are what you'd expect. Different, in that you're more appealable (har har) to organizations that value writing and research over trial experience. For example, the people that have left my office have gone on to be law secretaries or work for other government organizations.
