the months between graduation and start date?

How do people usually pay for rent/bills/bar trips/etc. during this time frame? From May to Oct/Nov seems to be like a long time to last without any income. What do most people do? A big firm's advance or stipend helps, but even 10k isn't necessarily sufficient for that time in major markets is it?

Credit cards. I basically pushed my expenses a month further down than if I hadn't used CCs, and now I can use my first month salary to catch up.
