How to Explain Being Let Go?

I got let got from my small firm about a week ago. It sucks, but I am trying to move on. This post explains what happened:

Basically, I was only given a vague statement about "managing work flow," even though I was working my ass off. In my opinion, the issue was that one attorney could not do all the work that I was expected to do and my managing partner had no idea the amount of work I was actually doing. I suspect that there may have been financial issues at the firm involved as well.

I am now talking with recruiters and reaching out to lawyer friends to find another job, but the question about what happened at my last firm typically comes up. My last firm said that they would not say that I was let go if asked, only the dates that I was employed and that I am not longer employed there. Also, my managing partner and I were always on friendly terms personally, so he actually said he would give me a good reference.

Any advice on how to handle questions about why I am no longer with my last firm?
