Cover Letter Language for Starting at Lower Class Year?

Hey all. I am a 2015 grad and am currently clerking with a Federal Judge. I started putting together my application materials today (I am aware it is early-- I am only sending applications out in response to specific job postings). Before clerking, I worked for a year for a government agency, but am trying to land in a firm. I don't care about class year-- I would honestly be happy to start as a first year so long as its a good firm.

So my questions is: do I put in my cover letter that I am flexible on class year? If so, does anyone have an example of language they used in their cover letter? My concern is that I will sound desperate by telling them I would start at a lower year, but I also don't want to get bypassed because they assume they would have to pay me more than other clerks.

i would omit this completely as i don't think demonstrating this flexibility is going to sway any firm that might be on the fence. this conversation will happen a lot further in the process and you shouldn't give up leverage for no reason.
