What are you interested in -- litigation, transnational?

Also, do you want to stay in Texas? Mayer Brown will have the most recognized, "prestigious" name outside of Texas, but is definitely not held to such a high level in the Texas market.

What type of practice is important here. I don't think you should factor in a firms "national" reputation if you don't know you want to stay in Texas. It appears to be clear after practicing in Houston a while that firms outside the state know which are the best firms in the state. People from VE/BB/LW are constantly moving to other top firms in different markets (including NY, Chicago and CA). How well it will work at an in-house gig in a different state I am less sure but usually you go in-house in the state you are practicing in.

At the level you are looking at, I would focus more on the people and fit than most other things. I think AK has the best transactional practice of the bunch, but otherwise I am unsure.
