Simpson/Davis Polk in N. California vs. Gibson NY for corp?

Struggling to figure out what would make more sense for general exit options inhouse later on. Strange choices I know.
STB/DPW has much better reputation nationwide for their corporate practice but are relatively small/focused in N. California. GDC NY is their biggest office, but their chambers rankings suggest they're not exactly up there with the top firms for corporate work in NY. FWIW much more enjoyed the people at GDC and am not opposed to working on either coast (originally from Bay). Would it be a mistake to choose fit over rankings in this instance?
