Post-Clerkship Application Question

Hey All: Currently clerking, summered at BigLaw firm after 2L. Didn't officially accept because of clerkship, but very strongly suggested to HR/partner mentor that I'd be returning.

I'm now thinking about exploring other firm opportunities, which of course requires that I would send out apps. Should I be worried that thew new firms I apply to will call up the firm I summered at when the see it on my resume? Do ppl generally apply other places after clerkships when they summered/rec'd offer at a different firm? FWIW, I'm looking to go to a smaller firm (so not swapping biglaw for biglaw).

Thanks!

They will almost certainly call the place you summered at.

different anon, similar situation.

who do they usually speak to? if you had a bad review will that play a huge role? (compared to, say, a strong recommendation from my judge(s))
