Sucks. Never guarantee anything though. I pretty much never give absolutes. There is always the possibility you miss something.

"Based on the research I've done to this point" was pretty much locked and loaded every time I had to report on the research I've done. Even when I had THE CASE on the issue, I hedged just in case I was wrong.

Lawyers spend an inordinate amount of time preparing to be wrong in my minimal experience.

Unless the partner and associate are extremely unreasonable, they won't think you're garbage just because of one mistake- especially since they caught it right away and it didn't go to the client or anything. Of course a lot of lawyers suck, so it's hard to know.
