do you need to respond if your interviewer extends a callback through a generic form email, where it seems like only the name of the invitee would vary?

i.e. "it was so great to meet you. thank you again for your time. I look forward to meeting with other members of your firm and showing why I would be a good fit. best, ___"

my guy says no...but any advice from those more familiar with the process would be appreciated!! thank you

I'm not trying to say that I have a problem with a generic form email...not even remotely.

I'm just wondering if the expectation is for me to respond or not, and whether it looks bad/hurts my chances if I don't. The only other ones I've received have been by voicemail/phone call. I don't have a large sample size of my own, and this is the only one I've received by email.

Rather than ask this question, it probably would have been easier to type a one line reply and hit send.

Why would you not respond to a callback email? What is the rationale behind not responding when it's a generic form email?

And what does the email actually say? It's weird that you give an example generic email of what a candidate would send but didn't give at least an example of the type of email you got. If the email says something like "Thank you for your interest; we'll let you know when we have a date for your callback interview," then maybe you don't need to respond with much (except something indicating thanks and that you'll happily await the email); if it says something like "We would like to extend another interview to you, let us know your schedule for the interview," then you should absolutely respond ASAP with a more detailed response, and you should not be waiting for a personalized email before doing so.

Of course it looks bad if you don't. They're offering you a second interview for a $180k job. Take 30 seconds to say thank you so they know you received it and are still interested.
