If you lateral to a firm in a different state

Will the firm help you with bar expenses? Or do you need to pass the bar before lateralling?

Firms vary. I did this (and now really regret it), but firms that are hiring you with the understanding that you're coming from another state will typically pay for bar expenses. Some firms will require that you already be admitted, but you'll typically know that in advance.

Some of the experiences I got at my current firm were pretty cool, but I really wish I hadn't moved. It's a lot harder to pick up and move to a new city and a new firm at the same time, and law firms are not forgiving places.
