Lateral with work visa issue

Hi everyone,

I'm a foreign national J.D. graduate of a t6. Had to start at a big law office in my home country due to striking out at the H1B visa lottery. Have been at this job for almost a year and things haven't been that great. I would really like to move back to the U.S. to practice but the local office told me that they won't help me transfer back to one of our U.S. offices, so the only option would be to lateral to another firm. Considering that the next H1B lottery will be in next April, would it be too early if I start applying now? Even if I receive an offer, assuming that I'll need to stay at my current firm until we find out the lottery results, will it be acceptable for me to continue working at the firm without telling anyone about the offer?

Thank you! Any advice appreciated.
