I noticed in past years there was a forum for Minnesota Minority Recruitment Conference (MMRC) interviews, callbacks, etc. Figured I'd start one for this year. I haven't yet heard of any scheduled pre-selects (schedule was suppose to have been released on July for myself or three others that I know applied. If anyone has been invited for interviews through pre-select please post. And please provide stats.

Does anyone with knowledge of Symplicity know if the system notifies you if you're not a pre-select or if it just stays the same saying that you bid on firms?

i don't think the organizers have set up Symplicity to "trigger" email alerts like how a school's OCI would. IIRC the Chicago one also didn't send emails for preselects. but I did get an email about 2 weeks ago from one of the MMRC firms, asking me to fill out a voluntary self-identification form thing. not sure if that was sent to all who bid for them or only those they've preselected.

for those transferring, will you be doing anything to update the MMRC folks or firms?

I received the same email asking for voluntary disclosure. I was wondering the same thing. In terms of updating my materials after being accepted as a transfer, I don't plan to. I mentioned in my cover letter that I had applied to transfer and if admitted I would be transferring. If it comes up in the interviews I'll address it though. Glad that I'm hearing other people haven't received any information about being a pre-select either. I've now heard of a total of 5 of us that have yet to hear anything or be scheduled for any interviews, which makes me feel a lot better and just believe that TCDIP doesn't have their act together and didn't meet their self imposed deadline.

Just logged in to check, they have released the schedule for pre-selects. It appears that they are still working on filling out schedules for the lottery though.

I have no idea what the fuck is going on with their symplicity page. I went from 7 interviews down to 3, then 2 and now it's at none. I need them to get their shit together. Registration for OCI ends tomorrow and if I'm not getting interviews with these firms through MMRC I need to apply through OCI.

I wonder if this is related to setting up the lottery interviews? i also went to zero.

They just responded to an email I sent last Thursday. Apparently there was some kind of issue with their Symplicity settings and we should have never seen anything, and what we did see may or may not be accurate. They stated schedules should be released by Thursday at the latest. But considering they already missed the July 8 deadline, I don't know how much I believe this.

i think the final schedules are up, I have 7 now (including 4 lottery). hopefully no more surprises!

How does one figure out which interviews are pre-select or lottery?

about a week and a half-ish ago, there was an initial schedule released. I only had 3 interviews, which i assume were preselects. so, i take it that the other 4 showing up now are the lottery interviews

I originally had 7 (about 10 days ago), now I'm down to 6. So I have no idea if the before mentioned method is accurate or not. I'm not sure if there is any way to know how many are pre-select and how many are lottery.

how did you guys feel about the MMRC? overall, I was expecting more students to participate (didn't seem a lot from what I saw). i don't want to name names, but you could really tell which interviewers wanted to be there and which ones didn't...it also seems like we were just the early interviews, and will be lumped together with everyone else the firms are interviewing at OCI's in the next few weeks. so, not sure how much faith to have in this. i felt like I had some good interviews, so hopefully they turn into something.

and did anyone send thank you emails? i was going to but decided against it b/c these were just screeners

I was surprised by the low turnout. Apparently many people registered but maybe 20-30 people showed up to MMRC. I'm not sure if the low turnout works in our favor because as the 2nd anon noted, they will lump OCI as they consider all applicants. I didn't send thank you emails but I'm planning on sending thank you notes if I get a call-back.

Congrats on the callback! I thought most of the firms were waiting until regular OCI was over to deliberate; I guess not.

How long did it take for Robins Kaplan to contact you after the screener?

MMRC was on Aug 4 and I got the ding on Aug 24. So almost 3 weeks.
