Just submitted my bids for OCI. Does anyone have insight on the very best firms in LA for corporate work? If you had to rank the top 5, what would it consist of?

What do you mean by "corporate"?

There are going to be massive differences among firms for things like:
- project finance
- structured and leveraged finance
- m&a
- general private equity work
- eg/vc
- etc

People are generally going to tell you GDC, Latham, Skadden, and Kirkland, but there are big differences among those firms as well as among all firms in LA.

A firm like Milbank is going to get you good project finance exposure.

A firm like Kirkland is going to get you good private equity and M&A exposure.

Latham and Skadden will give you good general M&A exposure.

Latham and OMM will give you good film finance exposure.

Someplace like Cooley, Gunderson, or Orrick is going to get you good eg/vc exposure.

But there are going to be variations . . . someplace like Sheppard Mullin is going to give you high deal flow on deals with lower consideration. I've had classmates who went to GDC to do corporate complain that there was not enough corporate work to go around so they were getting staffed on matters in other practice groups well into their third-fourth years.

But what as for the "top five" it really depends on what you're looking for. If all you care about is prestige and don't care about substance, bid Latham, Skadden, and Kirkland. But put some more thought into it so you can figure out what you want.
