What firms have you practiced against that have the most atrocious (be it work product, demeanor, etc.) counsel? Bonus points for stories

I'll say what we're all thinking.

Kirkland.

Kirkland even agrees.

Completely anecdotal and I'm certain this is the exception and not the rule: But I have been really unimpressed with the SullCrom lit associates that I've crossed paths with.

I've worked extensively with 3 of them and 2 were both pretty bad. 1 was a lateral to my firm and didn't last more than a year before getting asked to leave. Other was co-counsel at another v5 firm but had lateraled after 4 years at SullCrom. Both had brilliant resumes (federal clerks in competitive districts, CCN+LR, etc) but both were still terrible writers, blew deadlines, etc.

Third S&C guy Ive worked with is still at my firm and he's great and has a shot at partner.

(By which I mean if you think they're bad opposing counsel you haven't encountered bad opposing counsel yet.)

99% of the time: "Law Offices of [Name]."

I can think of exactly one exception - some dude who is The Guy for his niche.

A somewhat well-regarded Chicago lit boutique (that got its ass kicked), including a name partner who was kind of a self-righteous prick.

This is what I was referring to. Last thing we need on TLS is even more generalizations. How can this thread even be taken seriously. You work on a case with opposing counsel at firm X. The 3 people you work with are all rude and are disrespectful. Therefore, the entire 12 office, 1200 lawyer firm is rude and disrespectful.

This thread was inspired by a colleagues story about a senior at an opposing firm that would legit yell at our counsel on the phone. It sounded absurd

Apparently this guy is a partner at McDermott in Chicago now. I'm sure he's a treat to work for.

Not my story, but heard from a practicing friend that he's had some pretty bad experiences with Jones Day. Said that opposing counsel at Jones Day once yelled at my friend's team over the phone and told one of the attorneys he went to a "third rate law school."

Kirkland is so monolithically dickish that I assume they have some sort of asshole sleep conditioning program there.

Not a liTTTigator but I hear the same thing about Quinn from coworkers.

As far as incompetent, it would be a much shorter list to have the ones who WERE mostly competent.

One of the few good things about being a lawyer is being a dick to opposing counsel.
