For most NYC biglaw firms, if you fail the bar the first go around, do they give you a second chance or are you shown the door?

No, most BigLaws would give you a second chance for sure. It happens from time to time. However, no one ever forgets that you failed the first time. . . . .
You fail again (2x), and I'd think most firms would suggest you start looking.

It's only June. You still have time to study. Breath in and keep studying. You will do fine. If you are good enough to land a big law gig, you are good enough to pass the NY bar.

For example, Milbank has a stated policy in the associate handbook that you get a second shot

It is way too early to think about failing the bar. Even if you started your bar prep on this coming Monday, with good faith effort, you can pass the bar. Don't doubt yourself!

Fail once and you'll get a second shot, fail twice and you'll get fired.

I work there and no it doesn't. It's an unwritten norm for sure, but it's not in the handbook.
