3L Mass Mailing

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Jun 06, 2017 6:13 pm

Anon because my post history could easily out me. I'm spending my summer splitting between in house and a mid-sized firm, doing patent work. The firm traditionally offers, but I'm still planning on MMing several patent boutiques and big law firms later this summer/this fall. I have one of the less desirable patent backgrounds (think a bio-focused type of engineering) and was shot down at OCI by firms looking for EEs. Now that I'll be working on that type of technology at my mid-sized firm, I'd like to give them another shot.

What's the best way to go about MMing as a 3L? I can't say "hey, I really liked your firm and would like to make more money than I would at my mid-sized firm."

I realize my chances may be slim here at getting an offer or even an interview, but it can't hurt. I also want to cover my bases just in case I don't get an offer from the firm, for whatever reason.

Isn't this the essence of most job-changes within the same market? Just tactfully express why you'd rather work with "X" firm and why you'd be qualified and a good fit. Not really anything unique here from typical mass mailing.
