Does anyone have any recommendations for NY headhunters? Looking for a move to NY from a smaller secondary market.

I had a good experience with Ru Bhatt at Major, Lindsey & Africa. I got the firm impression he was actually looking out for me and wanted the best for my career, not just to make a quick commission.

Be sure to tap all your NYC connections before relying on recruiters. Recruiters can be helpful in some contexts, but they can also kill a candidate's chances. Remember, if a headhunter submits your resume, they've just added tens of thousands of dollars of cost to hiring you. I've personally had to reject candidates because their applications were submitted by a recruiter. Having an associate who knows you submit your resume can be much more valuable.

A specific exception is for positions where the firm itself has engaged a recruiter to help find candidates. Those are worth your time to talk to, but verify first that they have a signed exclusivity agreement.

If you must use a recruiter, I'd stay with establish firms like Major Lindsay and the like. There's too many fly-by-night legal recruiters who will spam your resume all over town.
