I am fortunate enough to be summering this summer at a NYC biglaw firm as a 1L (non-diversity). I did well first semester, but really think I did poorly the second semester (will be lucky if I end up with a 2nd semester gpa of 3.2ish). My question is how likely is it that I will not get an offer to come back as a summer next year once they find out my grades? Or is offer/no offer just based on your performance at work during the summer. Thanks.

The Offer/No-Offer decision is generally based on performance and fit alone. A small handful of firms care about enough about grades to let is impact the offer/no-offer decision, but even at those firms your grades usually have to get pretty bad before the firm would no offer you on that basis.

Agreed. OP, you have a very unique opportunity to mitigate the impact of your possibly less-than-stellar second semester by absolutely killing it this summer. If you show the firm that you are a team player, cool to be around, and are a super hard worker, you will likely get an offer despite the bad grades.

Go work your ass off this summer like your future in biglaw depends on it (it probably does).
