I will have a NY bar membership but work in CA.
Generally speaking, many companies require inhouse counsel with out-of-state membership to take the CA bar again?
How about law firms in CA?

Your questions isn't wholly clear. Are you asking whether a law firm situated in CA requires attorneys with out-of-state credentials who
practice in CA to take the CA bar?
Yes. Absolutely. How is that even a question?

If you practice immigration or something entirely federal, can't you practice with an out of state license?
If you are a general counsel, you likely wouldn't qualify for that exception
