Top Law Schools

Every year I see a handful of tax associates at my current biglaw firm (and peer firms) switch over to Ibanks and companies as "VP of tax." Does anyone here have any experience or information regarding these positions? Is it comparable to transactional tax work at law firms or is it something entirely different (ie tax-driven investments/deals or just legal compliance)?

No idea for banks, but at companies the vp tax is usually the top of them totem pole for tax matters. You'll probably need to deal with a little bit of everything, but obviously you will get to leverage down specific projects to your team.

I wonder if it is possible to become a VP of Insurance at a company?

If so, would this be higher or lower ranking than "Chief Risk Management Officer?"

You most likely need to know compliance very well too as you may the one signing the federal/state tax returns.

Depends on the company. I think the bigger issue is the provision. Those have a steeper learning curve and probably more risk. You will prob have a manager of sec reporting and fed
Tax director but you most likely want to at least be conversant.

Kellyfrost contributes a great deal of value and is actually a leading scholar on corn and insurance.

Whether or not my contributions add nothing of value is pretty subjective. Just like if someone were to post fucking shitty advice about clerkships, the value of those comments would be subjective as well. But to answer your question, no, because I feel like I often contribute value.
