I have an interview for a different market, where I have family and friends. Would it be inappropriate to choose a return flight a couple of days after the interview? Should I just ask the recruiter?

I did this and had no problem. I can't remember if I cleared it with recruiting or just did it with the travel agency, but as long as you're not having them pay for any extra nights of hotels/expenses than you would need solely for the interview, it shouldn't be a problem.

I would run it by recruiting before just booking, but they shouldn't care if costs are the same/similar. People making hiring decisions won't hear about it so don't stress about it impacting the outcome of your interview.

I haven't been in this situation yet, but if anything, doesn't it emphasize your ties to the market? Could be helpful in some of the more insulated markets. Can't see recruiting making a big deal out of it if the costs/effort on their part is the same.

I did this. I checked with recruiting just to be polite, but it wasn't a problem. Spent a whole week in my home market even though I only had one callback.
