Make a long story short - Have my CPA. Did tax for a couple years. Currently above median at CCN. Goal is NYC Biglaw practicing Capital Markets/M&A.
For this summer I have offers to do more tax work (legal side), but my worry is that I would be pigeon holing myself. Is this unfounded?

You'll be fine in that it certainly won't close the doors you're looking to enter, but make sure to have a good answer ready for why you want to do something else, because interviewers will certainly pick up on your history of tax work and how it continued into law school. I had no crim law background but worked for a judge in criminal court 1L summer and got asked about it all the time.

I am a CPA from CCN, ended up in biglaw litigation. If you have a good reason for why you want to practice in the group you're interviewing for, it's a non-issue. A CPA is useful in biglaw across the board, even in litigation (although I did get assigned a lot of billing matters

)

Do tax instead of corporate. Profit.
But no, you won't be pigeonholing yourself in any case.
