Send resume and transcripts to partner?!

My CSO said we should send out mass mailing emails to the head partner of departments we are interested in.
I thought it would just be better if I emailed the recruiting coordinator since that is probably where it is going to end up anyway.
Anyone have any advice/experience doing this? I just don't feel too comfortable emailing a random partner with a small blurb and my resume/transcripts. I think it is too forward. Maybe I'm just overthinking it.

Uh....if you were a lateral candidate with some degree of specialization (like you had two years of experience at another firm in antitrust law or patent lit or something else that's quirky), then I could kinda understand this approach. But if you're just a student looking to land a SA gig at a firm, I think it makes WAY more sense to email the recruiter. There's a decent chance that a partner would just delete/ignore/forget your email.

Thanks for the response. I'm a 3L applying for a full-time position, but I think your advice still stands.

I'll send to the recruiting unless the partner is an alumnus/alumna. Some firms have a hiring partner and recruiting coordinators; I'll send to the hiring partner--and if ignored, send to the recruiters. In most cases, there should be instructions on the website on this though.
