Culture in SF/Chicago/NYC?

For instance, NYC's lawyers are generally described as aggressive, straightforward and very competitive. I got the same impression about the lawyers who work in NYC and I felt uncomfortable talking to them. They asked me A LOT of personal questions right away as soon as we met during networking events.
I was wondering if there would be a stereotype for SF and Chicago markets. I imagine that Chicago lawyers are nicer in general at least ostensibly?

In Chicago, really depends on the firm and practice group, but generally the lawyers including the partners I have met are nice. People work long hours, but definitely seems to be less face time required than NYC

I can only speak for litigators, but I think we're aggressive, straightforward, and competitive in every major market. If those qualities make you uncomfortable, don't go into litigation.
When people talk about "culture" in different cities, they're usually talking about hours. With regard to hours, I do think that NYC is worse than other cities, though you'd work plenty in SF and Chicago as well.
