I graduated magna cum laude last year and now I keep getting emails from my school asking me to pay for order of the coif. Is that worth anything on a resume?

Order of the Coif signals "top 10%," so it's a benefit for those who come from schools that don't let grads put class ranks on resumes. But if you come from a school that lets you put your rank on your resume (or if the school gives out other well-known honors--like your magna cum laude--that also signal top 10%), then I don't think that coif adds any value.

I think I agree with the first statement but not necessarily the second.

First, I'm not 100% sure if magna cum laude means the same thing at all schools. When I'm looking at resumes for lateral hires, I don't put much faith in the Latin honors for that reason.

Second, I think that later on in your career (say if you're a 7th year looking to go in-house or lateral), it looks way less douchey/striver to put Order of the Coif on your resume than #25 out of 378/top 8%. The signaling value is real, and I've found it to be helpful in my career. I think it's like $75 bucks. Just do it.

I hear the actual coif you get upon joining isn't even that good
