Have 3Ls gotten their start dates?

When are you starting your new job? I'm trying to plan a bar trip but my firm hasn't announced a start date yet. Just trying to get a feel for what's normal.

Curious about stipend info as well. Is it standard practice for most v100 firms?RaceJudicata wrote:We don't have an official date, but historically has been first week in october.
On a related note: Have folks gotten stipend info? I don't think my stipend will cover all my expenses (it isn't great). In that case, do people get bar loans? If so, where from?
Sorry if this has been addressed before.
I think this varies dramatically firm to firm. From what I can gather, most firms give something. Some in the form of a stipend, others as a salary advance. My firm gives a stipend and its on the lower end ... about ~$7500 and its taxed.Trevorange wrote:Curious about stipend info as well. Appreciate it! I imagine the stipend and salary advance amounts are taken out of your paycheck when you start in October?MrT wrote:A couple years old but this should give you a decent idea: http://abovethelaw.com/careers/law-firm ... rst-years/RaceJudicata wrote:I think this varies dramatically firm to firm. I believe that depends on the firm. My firm required payback over the first few months but I believe at some firms it's a true stipend/bonus.Trevorange wrote:Appreciate it! It is in my firm's offer letter. My understanding is that we don't have to pay back the stipend unless we quit w/ in a year. Was also my understanding that it is not a part of my salary, but a true stipend. Again, I'm sure its firm specific.Trevorange wrote:Last question...MrT wrote:I believe that depends on the firm. Did you reach out about the stipend/advance before starting? Or did HR proactively offer it the summer before your start date? Thanks again!
