How concerned should I be about a median grade in a class relevant to practice area

I just got my grade back for partnership tax and I got median pwned. I was pretty surprised because I thought I had a decent grasp of the material and because the rest of the class seemed pretty disengaged (they were mostly 3Ls).

How concerned should I be about this? I have a decent background in tax but this has totally shot my confidence. I'm pretty worried about whether tax is a good fit for me.

ETA: I should probably make it clear that I have a 2L SA with a tax group.

I'd say showing interest and doing good work for the group this summer is much more important. Don't sweat it.

It's not a concern at all.

Partnership Tax is a brutal class, i wouldn't let it affect your feelings of competence. I bet half the tax group at whatever firm you are going to has horror stories about the class.

A broader point is that the tax group may also never see your grades. If anyone looks at your grades it will probably be admins on the HR or recruiting side or people on the hiring committee. Practice groups (to the extent they are oversubscribed) will very likely make their decisions first based on the repertoire you build over the summer.

This. No one cares and/or checks.

Thanks for this. I'm glad this doesn't mean I'm not just some retard who can't wrap his head around tax.

Thank god my office doesn't have a lot of PE or RE.
