Switching offices in my first year?

At DC office of a CA firm. Just started in October and like the firm and my work. Unfortunately, my family is in CA and for issues related to a family member's health, I need to move back. I'd like to do so sooner or rather than later, but I only just started. When can I ask about this--do I have to wait a year, or could I start the conversation in summer?

I know someone who was in the same circumstances and told the firm about it right after he started in the fall after graduation. They were more than accommodating.

That's a very good reason and I think most firms would be highly accommodating if you asked now. It will depend on your specific situation though - how closely the firm's offices are connected, whether your practice area exists in CA, etc. As with 90 percent of questions on here, you should run this by a trusted associate, but it passes the laugh test to ask now.

Thanks for the replies. I can think of a couple people within the firm who I trust enough to run my situation past. Glad to know I don't necessarily have to wait that long. It's been a stressful few weeks.
