Doing Summer Program again - Thoughts?

I'll be graduating from law school in December (3.5 year program). Writing NY bar in February and trying to figure out summer plans (received/accepted an offer to join my firm full-time in September 2017).

Thoughts about inquiring with the firm about repeating the summer program (starting in May) and then simply transitioning to full time employment once the program ends? Had a blast last summer and would love to repeat again if possible. Too greedy?

they'll probably say no, but no harm in asking.

And is this serious? How could there be no harm in asking?

I, too, would like to get paid an exorbitant amount of money to do no work and party for 10 weeks again.

Same.

If you're on a chill-enough basis with recruiting to ask, go ahead.

Its stupid because it shows a complete lack of professionalism to say "hey... i know you are bringing me on full time in September, but do you think I could join the firm for the summer? I'd do no meaningful work and it would only cost you like $40k."

OP - if you want to start up early, ask them to start as an actual associate. Don't ask to redo the summer associate recruiting party for ten weeks.

There is harm in asking, because it's a weird question. It's like if a basketball player who just signed a max deal going team and team - I just signed a contract but could you wine and dine me some more. I'll let you watch me run some laps at practice, and pitch me.

I'm sure the partners on the hiring committee would rather be summers too.

Fair enough - I tend to agree with you guys (hence my questioning whether it was too greedy). Thought there may have been some room though as 1Ls repeat (and some clerkship students do as well).

That said, best call if I decide to start early would be to go in as a full-time associate.

Appreciate all the answers
