What would you do?

I'm in a three year fellowship program within the Agency I ultimately want to work at. However, I'm practicing an area of law I don't want to do and I'm in an isolated area. Would I be forever tainted if I left the fellowship early to clerk and then tried to get back in the agency but a different division ?
