What do these firms look like in 10 years? Steve Susman seems to be about 76 and John Keker about 73.

I know there is no scientifically accurate way of answering this, but do folks generally think those firms thrive beyond the retirement of their major namesakes?

Just look at the history of all the biglaw firms now. They all used to be boutiques that began with 2-4 people. Their names have lived on, although the founders passed away.

It cannot possibly be as simple as that. Were those firms of roughly equal size when their named partners retired/passed? What portion of their business came in through the named partners while they still worked there? Did other partners regularly appear at the top of the caption in the earlier years?

Also look at the history of firms that don't exist anymore because the main partners left/died.

A more interesting question is why this was posted anonymously.

If you have the qualifications for susman or keker I think you could weather quite a bit of firm turbulence. I also think these firms are gonna be relatively stable compared to others.

This, in combination with an offer from a much newer lit boutique. Trying to figure out what each will look like in 5 years. I agree that Keker and Susman are both likely to remain stable, just want to see if others agree.

Munger provides a pretty good example. Charlie munger stopped practicing and Leroy tolles passed away, and ron olson barely practices now. But the firm has developed a deep bench with so many other 'rainmakers' that it hardly matters that the named partners are out, and the same goes for susman and keker.

That's really helpful - I think MTO is a good model for comparison to both Susman & Keker. Thank you.
