Professional Liability ID work advice

I recently got an offer to join a professional liability group. I think the practice involves representing various financial, legal, and healthcare professionals from malpractice claims. I didn't realize this work is actually insurance defense... sorta because fees are paid by insurance carriers covering malpractice policies.
I know next to nothing about the actual practice as a first year junior. Is this one of those soul-crushing low-end litigation jobs in the ranks of debt collection and personal injury? Or is this a great place to learn litigation involving fairly sophisticated and interesting cases?
