Interview Travel Costs

I know Quinn has stopped paying for interview travel in many circumstances. Does anyone know if other firms don't pay for travel?

For some, this might be their best or only shot at employment.Anonymous User wrote:Is this actually true? Why would anyone bother interviewing at Quinn if this is the case?
With Quinn specifically, most people interviewing now are 3Ls who summered elsewhere and presumably got an offer there, though.kellyfrost wrote:For some, this might be their best or only shot at employment.
Know for an absolute fact that this is true from multiple sources.axel.foley wrote:With Quinn specifically, most people interviewing now are 3Ls who summered elsewhere and presumably got an offer there, though.kellyfrost wrote:For some, this might be their best or only shot at employment.
Also unrelatedly: Anyone know if Quinn pays above market bonuses, a la Boies (besides 35K signing bonus for 3Ls)? Seems like the horror stories wouldn't be worth it there if you are making market. Is partnership more realistic?
hmm maybe they prioritize different candidates differently?Anonymous User wrote:Not remotely true - I interviewed with quinn this cycle and they paid travel costs...
would love to think im a special snowflake, but seems unlikely. the cost of the interviewers' lost time almost certainly exceeds train/plane/hotel anyways - im skeptical theyd willingly incur those costs for candidates theyre not actually interested in.Anonymous User wrote:hmm maybe they prioritize different candidates differently?Anonymous User wrote:Not remotely true - I interviewed with quinn this cycle and they paid travel costs...
I did during 1L when I told the white lie "I'll be in your area on X-Y dates"Anonymous User wrote:Is it worth it to just spend the money on airfare and hotel if the firm won't pay...like an "investment" in yourself? Is this stupid?
If you're options are chance at working in Quinn or unemployment/underemployment it's absolutely worth it. Even discounted by probability the Quinn job in that scenario is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars over your career.Anonymous User wrote:Is it worth it to just spend the money on airfare and hotel if the firm won't pay...like an "investment" in yourself? FWIW: My classmate friend, I noted above, is employed in the northeast and wanted to move south. When I lateraled the firm paid my travel costs, not sure what I would have done had they not been interested enough to pick up the travel tab.2014 wrote:If you are thinking of trading "up" or lateraling it's a different question and could very well be not worth it.Anonymous User wrote:Is it worth it to just spend the money on airfare and hotel if the firm won't pay...like an "investment" in yourself? That what is true, above market bonuses? Quinn's bonus structure is public information. You get a small bump if you bill over 2400 hours in a full year. You also risk making below market if you bill under 2100. It is not an "absolute fact" that the average associate is being paid above market.Anonymous User wrote:Know for an absolute fact that this is true from multiple sources.axel.foley wrote:With Quinn specifically, most people interviewing now are 3Ls who summered elsewhere and presumably got an offer there, though.kellyfrost wrote:For some, this might be their best or only shot at employment.

I interviewed at QE as a 3L and they paid my travel costs. It was a form included in the standard interview packet along with the names of attorneys I would be meeting with.Anonymous User wrote:would love to think im a special snowflake, but seems unlikely. the cost of the interviewers' lost time almost certainly exceeds train/plane/hotel anyways - im skeptical theyd willingly incur those costs for candidates theyre not actually interested in.Anonymous User wrote:hmm maybe they prioritize different candidates differently?Anonymous User wrote:Not remotely true - I interviewed with quinn this cycle and they paid travel costs...
